Lateness is a minor act of contempt

It doesn't take much to plan ahead and ensure that you're on time.
It takes even less to watch the clock and keep your committments.
When someone shows up late it sends a clear message: "Whatever I was doing was clearly more important that whatever else you could be doing with this time."

That is an act of contempt.
It's why we all hate waiting rooms!

3 weeks, 5 rules

A friend of mine and I have been ruminating about life-lessons in relationships and have come up with a solid theory. We call it "3 weeks, 5 rules"

Basically, the concept is that you can really see all the warning signs of a bad relationship within the first 3 weeks. Specifically, we outlined 5 "walk away" items that will ALWAYS lead to a bad relationship. You should find out about them in the first 3 weeks, and make like a tree and get the hell out if any of them apply:
  1. He/She has no real friends
  2. He/She has a history of abuse
  3. He/She has a history of drug use, including long-term use of therapeutic drugs
  4. You cannot make excuses for anything he/she does. None
  5. If there is anything you feel like you can't tell a friend about, you have to tell them
That's it. There's a little magic in each rule, and I'll write more about each of them as time goes by.
